Cyprus is set for a return to warmer conditions this week, with temperatures gradually rising above seasonal norms, while afternoon instability is expected to continue bringing isolated showers, mainly over higher ground.
According to the Department of Meteorology, a seasonal low-pressure system continues to affect the region.
Mostly fine, with a chance of mountain showers
Monday will be mainly fine at first, although increased cloud cover is expected to develop later in the day, with a chance of isolated showers, mainly over mountainous areas.
Winds will initially be variable at around 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, reaching 5 Beaufort at times along southern coastal areas.
The sea will be slightly rough.
Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach:
- 35C inland
- 31C on the west coast
- Around 34C on the remaining coasts
- 25C in the higher mountains
Clear overnight
Conditions overnight will remain mostly clear.
Winds will be northwesterly to northeasterly, and southeasterly along northern coastal areas, remaining light at 3 Beaufort.
The sea will be calm to slightly rough.
Minimum temperatures are expected to fall to:
- 22C inland
- 22C along the coast
- 16C in higher mountainous areas
Same pattern through Thursday
The weather from Tuesday through Thursday is expected to follow a similar pattern.
Conditions will be mostly sunny during the morning, with locally increased cloud during the afternoon bringing the possibility of isolated showers, primarily in mountainous regions.
Mercury heading higher
Forecasters expect temperatures to increase gradually over the three-day period, rising to levels above the average for the season.
