Unsettled Weather, Storms and Hail Before Temperatures Rise Again

Showers, isolated thunderstorms and possible hail are forecast through Saturday before temperatures begin climbing again on Sunday.

seasonal low-pressure system is affecting Cyprus, bringing a mix of sunshine, cloud, isolated showers and thunderstorms before warmer conditions return later in the weekend.

Thursday

Most areas will be mainly fine with periods of increased cloud.

Cloud build-up over inland areas and the mountains during the afternoon is expected to produce isolated showers and possibly an isolated thunderstorm.

Winds will initially be light and variable at 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and temporarily reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort along southwestern coasts.

The sea will be calm to slight.

Temperatures will reach:

  • 39C inland
  • 32C on western and southwestern coasts
  • 34C on the remaining coastal areas
  • 28C in the higher mountains

Thursday night

Conditions will remain mostly clear, although periods of low cloud are expected along coastal areas.

Later in the night and during the early morning hours, mist or fog may form locally, particularly in eastern districts and inland areas.

Temperatures will fall to:

  • 22C inland
  • 23C along the coast
  • 18C in the higher mountains

Friday and Saturday

Periods of increased cloud cover are expected.

During the afternoon, cloud development over the mountains and inland areas is likely to bring:

  • Isolated showers
  • Isolated thunderstorms
  • Possible hail in thunderstorm areas

Mist or fog may also develop locally during late-night and early-morning hours, especially in eastern and inland regions.

Sunday

The weather is expected to become mainly fine, with only temporary increases in cloud.

Temperature trend

Temperatures are forecast to gradually decline through Saturday, briefly returning to near seasonal averages.

However, a small increase is expected on Sunday, pushing temperatures back to above-normal levels for the time of year.
