Former defence minister Koullis Mavronicolas officially submitted his candidacy for the presidency of EDek on Tuesday morning, becoming the first formal contender in the party's leadership race.
The succession contest was effectively launched by EDek Youth president Sofia Christodoulou Makri, who announced her intention to seek the party leadership on Sunday through a public post on Facebook.
According to information obtained by Politis, Marios Hannides is also expected to submit a candidacy.
The contest follows the resignation of party leader Marinos Sizopoulos, opening a new chapter for the socialist party as it seeks to elect its next president.
