Cyprus is ready to pay its annual €25 million contribution to the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), President Nikos Christodoulides has said.
In an interview with Plus television, Christodoulides said he had reached an understanding with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that the payment would be made once a NAVTEX notice is issued allowing survey work and cable-laying operations related to the project to proceed.
The president said the Republic of Cyprus had no objection to paying the agreed amount and stressed that there was no disagreement between Cyprus and Greece over the project.
Christodoulides also dismissed suggestions of friction between the two governments regarding the GSI, saying some were attempting to create the impression that problems existed between Nicosia and Athens over the interconnection project.
According to the president, such claims do not reflect reality, and both governments remain aligned in their support for the project.
