President Nikos Christodoulides has congratulated the Cypriot athletes who competed at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing their performances as a reflection of the high standard of sport in Cyprus.
The Cypriot delegation won 12 medals, placing Cyprus 14th among 72 participating countries.
Cyprus secures 12 medals
“With feelings of pride, I warmly congratulate our athletes who represented the Republic of Cyprus at the Commonwealth Games ‘Glasgow 2026’,” the President said in a written statement on Monday.
More than 3,000 athletes participated in the Games, with Cyprus claiming one gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
Christodoulides said the athletes’ participation, achievements and overall effort reflected their hard work and sacrifices, while confirming the high level reached by Cypriot sport.
Government pledges continued support
The President said the state actively supports athletes through the Cyprus Sports Organisation and assured them of the government’s continued backing.
He also congratulated the athletes’ coaches, sporting federations and the Cyprus Olympic Committee, while thanking their families for supporting them throughout their efforts.
Christodoulides concluded by wishing the athletes even greater success in the future.
