Trade unions representing hourly-paid government staff will hold a joint meeting on Wednesday, 5 August, to determine their next steps over the renewal of the sector’s collective agreement.
The unions have rejected the Finance Ministry’s proposal because it does not provide for general pay increases, their main demand.
Joint meeting in Nicosia
The general councils of OEKDY-SEK, PASYEK-PEO and DEE-KDOKO-DEOK will meet at 10:00 at SEK’s central offices in Strovolos, in the Markos Drakos Hall.
According to a joint statement, the meeting will focus on the unions’ response following the rejection of the employer’s proposal.
The unions are expected to consider escalating strike action over the absence of general pay rises.
Statements to the media are scheduled for 12:00, when the unions will announce their decisions and planned course of action.
