Police say there is no further threat to the public, while the motive for the attack in Stade remains unclear.

Five people have been killed in a shooting in the northern German town of Stade, with police arresting two people as investigations continue. Early reports said one of those detained is believed to be the main suspect.

The attack took place in Stade, a town of about 50,000 people west of Hamburg. Police launched a large-scale operation in the area and urged residents to stay away while emergency services and investigators worked at the scene.

A police spokesperson said there was no longer any danger to the public. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and authorities have not released further details about the victims or the circumstances of the attack.

German media reported that the shooting occurred in the Dankersstraße area, with police and rescue crews deployed in force. The scene remained under police control as officers continued to gather evidence.
