US President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to respond to any future Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz by targeting Iranian civilian infrastructure, including bridges and power stations.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the United States would retaliate against any attack carried out by Iran against commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.
"From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT," Trump wrote.
He added that the threatened targets would include infrastructure "located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran."
The statement comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran and uncertainty over shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.
