A meeting with Nicos Christodoulides has been arranged for next week, Turkish-Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman disclosed following last nights' return to the north from Ankara, where he held his first meeting and talks with Turkish President Erdogan.
'The meeting will be held in the 2nd half of next week', Erhurman told reporters.
If confirmed, this first tete a tete will be taking place weeks before the UNSG's special envoy on Cyprus Maria Angela Holguin returns to the island next month, on a further sounding out mission, as she prepares for an informal five-party meeting on the Cyprus issue, scheduled early next year, with no definitive dates as yet.
According to CyBC sources, the Turkish-Cypriot leader said at a joint press conference with Erdogan, that he was on the same page with Ankara on sensitivities, adding however that deliberations will continue with the Turkish government, noting points of divergence.
'We don't have opposing views, but there are differences on how we say certain things', Erhurman added.
He further stated that Turkish-Cypriots claim sovereignty over the whole island and will not relinquish their rights.
