Τhe Independent Anti-Corruption says it cannot launch its own probe.

The Independent Anti-Corruption Authority has comprehensively studied Videogate at a meeting of Authority members and experts.

It subsequently issued a statement with general comments on the investigation without going into specifics on the content of the video and making clear that, despite appeals by both politicians and the general public, legislation pertinent to its operations, do not allow it to launch its own probe, as one is already under way, following relevant AG instructions.

'We are closing monitoring all developments following the publication of videogate', the Authority noted, praising the Legal Service for moving quikly in its criminal investigation.

It will however maintain open lines of communication with the Legal Service on any developments and remains at the disposal of authorities to facilitate the on-going probe, in particular as regards the lobbying legislation, with the authority being the only organisation that can proceed with its implementation.

The Independent Anti-Corruption Authority will not be issuing any other public statements.
