The European Commission has approved an advance payment of €2.3 million to Cyprus, giving the government immediate financial capacity to begin restoring essential infrastructure damaged during the July 2025 wildfires.
The funds will contribute to early recovery works in affected parts of Limassol and Paphos, covering damage to schools, healthcare facilities and other critical public structures. Cyprus submitted its formal request for EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF) assistance in October 2025. The Commission will now assess the application and prepare a mobilisation proposal for the European Parliament and the Council, which will determine the final aid amount. The advance payment does not predetermine the eventual level of support.

In a parallel update, the Commission confirmed the disbursement of €108 million from the EUSF to Austria and Poland for the extensive damage caused by the autumn 2024 floods. Austria received €32 million, in addition to the €10 million advance released earlier this year, while Poland was allocated €76 million.
The devastating floods impacted key infrastructure across Central and Eastern Europe, including transport networks and water management systems. Under EUSF rules, eligible emergency and recovery costs can be financed retroactively from the first day of a disaster.
