The former MEP says police findings confirm his position that the messages were fabricated, adding that he will seek full accountability through the courts.

Former MEP Demetris Papadakis has announced his intention to take legal action against journalist Makarios Drousiotis, following police findings in the case involving alleged forged messages.

In a written statement, Papadakis said he is already in contact with his lawyers to initiate all necessary legal proceedings against Drousiotis, as well as against any other person who may be shown to have been involved in the creation or circulation of the messages.

Papadakis said the outcome of the police investigation did not surprise him, noting that from the beginning he had maintained that the messages concerning him were fabricated and had no connection to reality. He said he considered himself the victim of a “major political plot”, the full extent of which must be investigated.

The former MEP added that he would insist on the continuation of the investigation in order to identify all those involved, both in the conception of the alleged scheme and in the creation of the messages. He said his priority remained the protection of his personal dignity and reputation.

“For me, what matters most is safeguarding my personal dignity and my name from this entire plot,” Papadakis said.

He added that he would continue to press for a full investigation “until all those involved are identified”, including those who, as he said, deliberately implicated him in the affair.

Referring specifically to Drousiotis, Papadakis said he was already in contact with his lawyers “so that we can initiate all legal procedures against him, as well as against any person shown to be behind this plot”.
