A coordinated police operation targeting nightlife venues in Ayia Napa has resulted in the seizure of more than 1,400 canisters of nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas", and the arrest of two people on suspicion of illegally possessing a controlled Class B pharmaceutical substance.
According to a statement issued by the Cyprus Police Communication Branch, officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), assisted by members of the Mobile Immediate Action Unit (MMAD), carried out the operation overnight under the authority of a court warrant.
Arrest
During the operation, police searched four entertainment venues. At three of the premises, officers seized a total of 1,423 nitrous oxide canisters, 455 balloons and three metal cylinders.
Police said the nitrous oxide is classified as a controlled pharmaceutical substance.
Two individuals were arrested during the operation on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled Class B pharmaceutical substance.
The Ayia Napa Police Station is continuing its investigation.
