The Prison Officers Branch of PASYDY has expressed regret over the dismissal of Central Prisons employee Giorgos Maltezos, while rejecting as "completely inaccurate" claims that a recent meeting between its delegation and the Minister of Justice and Public Order was linked to the case.
In a statement, the branch said allegations made publicly by the Isotita trade union "do not correspond to reality" and seek unjustifiably to connect the meeting with the dismissal of their colleague.
According to PASYDY, during the meeting with the justice minister, "no reference whatsoever was made to Giorgos Maltezos, nor was any issue discussed, directly or indirectly, relating to his disciplinary proceedings or employment status".
The branch said the meeting focused exclusively on matters concerning the Prison Officers Branch and its members, within the framework of institutional cooperation with the political leadership of the ministry.
In its statement, the Prison Officers Branch of PASYDY categorically rejected "any attempt to associate this specific meeting with the case or with the decision to dismiss our colleague", stressing that there was never any related discussion or reference during the talks.
While distancing itself from the allegations, the branch repeated that it regrets the dismissal of Mr Maltezos.
