The Department of Meteorology has issued a Yellow Warning for high temperatures, with the alert in force from 2pm until 5pm on Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to reach 40°C inland, while above-average conditions are forecast to persist at least until Sunday.

A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting the region.
Thursday will be mostly clear, with winds initially northwesterly to northeasterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, later turning southwesterly to northwesterly. Seas will be slight.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach:
- 40°C inland
- 34°C on the west coast
- 37°C along the remaining coastal areas
- 30°C in the higher mountains
Overnight
Conditions will remain mostly clear.
Temperatures will fall to around:
- 25°C inland and along the south and east coasts
- 24°C on the remaining coasts
- 20°C in the higher mountains
Weekend outlook
The weather is expected to remain mostly clear on Friday and throughout the weekend.
No significant change in temperatures is forecast, with values remaining above seasonal averages over the coming days.
