The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning for today, Tuesday, 18 August 2026, as unstable weather conditions affecting Cyprus are expected to trigger isolated strong thunderstorms.
The warning comes into effect at 1pm and will remain in force until 6pm.
According to the department, isolated severe thunderstorms are expected mainly over:
- Mountainous areas
- Inland regions
- Eastern coastal areas
Hail is also possible during storms.
Rainfall intensity may locally exceed 35 millimetres per hour, raising the risk of sudden downpours in affected areas.
The warning follows forecasts indicating that unsettled weather conditions will continue to affect parts of Cyprus through midweek.
