August Rainfall Reaches 41% of Monthly Average

Saittas and Athienou recorded totals above normal levels, preliminary Meteorological Department data show.

 

Showers in mountainous and inland areas have lifted this month’s rainfall total, with sharp local variations recorded across the government-controlled areas.

Preliminary data released by the Meteorological Department show that mean rainfall reached 1.2 millimetres by 9am on 17 August, compared with the monthly average of 2.9 millimetres.

Rainfall over the past three days

The highest totals during the past three days were recorded in Saittas, with 13.9 millimetres, and Platania, with 13.2 millimetres.

The mean rainfall recorded across the government-controlled areas during the same period stood at 1.1 millimetres.

Local totals exceed normal levels

Between 1 August and 9am on 17 August, Saittas recorded the highest total, at 13.9 millimetres, equivalent to 103% of its normal monthly rainfall.

Platania received 13.2 millimetres, or 96% of its normal level, while Athienou recorded 9 millimetres, corresponding to 360% of the local monthly average.

In Lythrodontas, rainfall reached 7 millimetres, equivalent to 233% of the normal August level.
