The House Selection Committee has decided to keep the number of parliamentary committees at 16, with DISY and AKEL each taking five chairmanships.

The House Selection Committee decided on Friday to maintain the 16 parliamentary committees that operated during the previous parliamentary term, while also agreeing on how their chairmanships will be distributed among the parties.

The meeting lasted more than two and a half hours and ended at 12:30 p.m. According to the decision, DISY and AKEL will each chair five committees, while ELAM and DIKO will each chair three.

DISY will chair the committees on Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Health, Legal Affairs and Institutions.

AKEL will take the chairmanships of the committees on Internal Affairs, Labour, Agriculture, Refugees and Human Rights.

ELAM will chair the committees on Defence, Environment and Transport, while DIKO retains the chairmanships of the Finance, Education and Audit committees.
