Iran is not currently engaged in negotiations with the United States and is instead holding discussions with Oman regarding a temporary safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday.
Mr Baghaei's comments contradict recent suggestions that new talks between Washington and Tehran may be under way.
He added that any agreement with Oman alone would not be sufficient to reopen the strategic waterway, arguing that conditions would remain unchanged as long as what he described as continuing US "aggression" persists.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas exports.
Mr Baghaei did not provide further details regarding the discussions with Oman or the nature of the proposed temporary passage arrangement.
