Firefighting teams were battling a major fire that broke out on Monday afternoon at an electrical goods store on Strovolos Avenue.
According to fire service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the fire has engulfed both the ground floor and the mezzanine of the premises, which also includes a basement level. He noted that during the firefighting operation, the basement will also be inspected to determine whether it has been affected by the blaze.
Inside the store, the contents include electrical appliances and office equipment, which are contributing to the intensity of the fire.
Six fire engines and an aerial platform vehicle were on site tackling the flames. Kettis confirmed that all staff managed to evacuate the building safely. However, a full search of the premises will follow to ensure no one remains inside.
Authorities have also evacuated a nearby apartment block as a precaution, while Strovolos Avenue has been closed to traffic with the assistance of the police.
