The initiative aims to help members of the LGBTQIA+ community identify healthcare providers described as inclusive and non-discriminatory, based on peer recommendations.

A new community-led registry listing queer-friendly medical professionals across Cyprus has been released by the Queer Collective.

Community-led directory

Announcing the launch on Wednesday, the Queer Collective described the registry as a “community directory” designed to improve access to medical specialists who treat LGBTQIA+ individuals with dignity and respect.

“Finding a doctor, therapist, or specialist who will treat you with dignity is harder than it should be in Cyprus,” the group stated.

According to the organisation, the resource was created to support individuals seeking professionals considered inclusive and respectful towards LGBTQIA+ people. The current list includes ten doctors from various specialisations, among them personal doctors, gynaecologists, a urologist and a psychiatrist.

How professionals are added

The Queer Collective explained that entries are based on recommendations submitted by community members.

“Once we receive a recommendation we review it based on what information was provided. We cross reference if the person has been recommended before and then we add to the list,” the group said.

The same submission form can also be used to report concerns about listed professionals. Submissions are reviewed by the group before any action is taken.

Disclaimer and participation

The Queer Collective clarified that the registry is recommendation-based and does not constitute an official certification. The group does not guarantee the quality of medical services nor independently verify professional credentials.

“We welcome you to contribute by submitting a recommendation or sharing your experience,” the website states.

The Community Directory is available online through the Queer Collective’s official channels here.
