Police carried out a major anti-poaching operation in Larnaca district, where officers discovered dozens of trapped wild birds and a network of illegal trapping equipment, authorities said.
According to police, officers from the MMAD Anti-Poaching Unit conducted an operation in a prohibited hunting area and found three electronic devices emitting recorded wild bird calls, along with seven bird-trapping nets.
A total of 103 wild birds were found alive in the nets and were immediately released back into their natural habitat. Authorities also found 12 dead wild birds at the site.
Investigations are continuing to identify the person managing the area where the equipment was discovered.
The case is being investigated by Kofinou Regional Police Station.
The operation forms part of ongoing police efforts to combat the illegal trapping and killing of wild birds.
