Wintry conditions set to persist until Saturday

A weak low-pressure system is affecting the area, while light dust will be present in the atmosphere at times.

Today

Conditions will be mostly cloudy, with localised rain expected. During the afternoon, showers may be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms.

Winds will blow mainly from the northeast to southeast, moderate to strong at 4–5 Beaufort. In windward areas, they will strengthen to strong or very strong, 5–6 Beaufort, and at times reach gale force, 6–7 Beaufort. Seas will be rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 12°C inland, about 15°C along the coast, and 4°C in the higher mountains, where local frost will occur.

Tonight

The weather will remain mostly cloudy, with local rain and the possibility of thunderstorms. Snow or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos Mountains.

Winds will initially blow from the northeast to southeast, later turning northerly to northeasterly, moderate at around 4 Beaufort and locally strong to very strong, up to 5 Beaufort. The sea will remain rough.

Temperatures will fall to around 8°C inland, 11°C along the coast, and 4°C in the higher mountains, where frost will again be observed locally.

Outlook

Friday: Partly cloudy conditions, with occasional isolated showers. Snow or sleet remains possible on the highest peaks of Troodos.

Saturday: Localised rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, along with snowfall in the higher mountainous areas. Conditions are forecast to improve markedly during the afternoon.

Sunday: Partly cloudy weather.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise through Sunday, particularly inland, reaching close to or slightly above seasonal averages.

At the time of issuing this bulletin, snow depth at Chionistra stood at 20 centimetres.
