German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that Germany will stand by Cyprus if the country requires support, following a meeting in Nicosia with Cyprus Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos.

“If Cyprus truly needs us, we will be present,” Wadephul said after the talks held on Tuesday.

Call for diplomatic de-escalation

For his part, Kombos stressed that Europe must play an active role in efforts to de-escalate tensions through diplomacy.

He also emphasised that Cyprus should be viewed as part of the solution rather than part of any problem.
