Iran has warned the United Nations Security Council against taking what it described as “provocative action” ahead of a vote on a draft resolution concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposed resolution concerns the mandate for the establishment of a force tasked with protecting maritime navigation through the strategic waterway.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that any move perceived as hostile would risk escalating the situation.

“Any provocative action by the aggressors and their supporters, including the United Nations Security Council regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, will only complicate the situation,” he said.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for global energy transport, with a significant share of international oil shipments passing through the narrow passage connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
