Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman said the Turkish Cypriot side has completed its preparations and consultations and is ready for the process beginning today with the visit of María Ángela Holguín, the personal envoy of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
In a social media post on Sunday afternoon, Erhürman said that Guterres, UN officials and the wider public were already aware of the approaches he has proposed in line with what he described as the will of the "people" for a settlement.
He added that Guterres' visit to Cyprus is important and forms part of the Secretary-General's ongoing efforts, but cautioned against attaching excessive significance to the visit.
"It would not be right to regard this visit as a solution, or as the beginning or the end of any process," he said.
Erhürman stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side supports the efforts being made by the UN Secretary-General and is seeking to contribute in good faith.
"We support the efforts being made by the Secretary-General and try to contribute in good faith. As always, we carry out our work in close consultation with the authorities of the Republic of Turkey."
He said his guiding principle would continue to be the will of the "people" and pledged to keep the public informed about developments.
According to Erhürman, all decisions and future steps would take into account the views of all sections of society.
The Turkish Cypriot leader is scheduled to meet María Ángela Holguín at 11am today.
