The Democratic Party welcomes the “clear messages” conveyed by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides from the podium of the 81st United Nations General Assembly regarding the defence of International Law and the need for the reunification of Cyprus.
At the same time, it states that it supports “every meaningful effort” that could lead to the resumption of genuine negotiations.
In a statement, DIPA refers to President Christodoulides’ response to the Turkish President’s remarks on International Law, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It notes that “equally important is the reaffirmation of our side’s readiness to resume negotiations from the point at which they were interrupted in 2017”.
According to the statement, a bicommunal, bizonal federation with political equality, as defined in the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, remains the agreed framework for a comprehensive solution.
DIPA also stresses that “partition cannot be the future of Cyprus”.
