Cyprus’ Road Transport Department has issued a warning after receiving information from the Consumer Protection Service about two vehicle-related alerts published on the EU’s Safety Gate rapid warning system for dangerous non-food products.
According to the department, the alerts concern Scania trucks from the L-SERIES, P-SERIES, G-SERIES, R-SERIES and S-SERIES, manufactured between 15 August 2024 and 27 February 2026, as well as Audi Q5 passenger vehicles manufactured between 10 July 2025 and 19 December 2025.
The department noted that announcements or data included in the Safety Gate system concern only vehicles with European type approval.
Further details on the dangerous products can be obtained through the Safety Gate website by using the alert number for each product.
The Road Transport Department called on manufacturers, representatives, distributors, importers and sellers, including those operating online or remotely, who may have placed or are placing such products on the market in the Republic of Cyprus, to inform the department accordingly.
It added that, if the products are available in Cyprus, the relevant economic operators are required to take all necessary measures for their recall, as provided for under the applicable legislation.
The department also urged consumers who own the vehicles in question to contact the manufacturer, representative or distributor for instructions. For vehicles with European type approval, ownership should be checked against the vehicle registration certificate and the details listed on it, such as the production range, type and model number.
For alerts concerning vehicle components, where appropriate, consumers are advised to stop using them and return them immediately to the place of purchase, if possible, while informing the seller.
If a manufacturer, representative, distributor, importer or seller refuses to respond to the consumer’s rights, the consumer is urged to submit a written complaint to the Consumer Protection Service through its website.
For further information, consumers can contact the Road Transport Department or send an email to recalls@rtd.mcw.gov.cy.
