Christodoulidis Heads to Kazakhstan for First-Ever Presidential Visit

The trip includes talks with President Tokayev, the inauguration of Cyprus's embassy in Astana, and the signing of several memoranda of understanding.

 

President Nikos Christodoulidis will make an official visit to Kazakhstan on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, accompanied by cabinet members and a business delegation. It is the first official visit by a President of the Republic of Cyprus to Kazakhstan, according to a written statement by Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou.

The president and the Cypriot delegation will travel to Astana on Tuesday, 2 June, on the first direct flight linking the two countries.

On Wednesday morning, Christodoulidis will meet with Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for a one-on-one session, followed by expanded talks between the two delegations. At the conclusion of those talks, President Tokayev will confer on Christodoulidis the state decoration of the Order of Friendship.

In the presence of both presidents, memoranda of understanding will be signed covering higher education and research, culture, sport, information and communications technology, cybersecurity, and e-governance. A separate memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Cyprus and Kazakhstan Chambers of Commerce. The two leaders will then make statements to the press, after which Christodoulidis will attend an official lunch hosted in his honour by President Tokayev.

That afternoon, the president will address the Cyprus-Kazakhstan Business Forum at the Astana International Financial Centre, before visiting the Alem A.I. International Artificial Intelligence Centre. He will then inaugurate the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Astana, in the presence of Kazakhstani Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.

Christodoulidis will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Michalis Damianos, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodemos Damianou, Director of the Presidential Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis, and the Deputy Government Spokesman, along with other officials. The president is due to return to Cyprus on Thursday, 4 June.
