A forest fire that broke out in the area of the community of Neo Chorio, in the Paphos district, has been brought under full control, with authorities saying it was started deliberately. According to an announcement from the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the fire broke out at around 5.20am on Sunday, 14 June 2026, at a location known as "Pregkos" in the community of Neo Chorio.
The prompt response of forest fire crews prevented the fire from spreading further, and it was brought under full control by 6.10am, after burning through around a tenth of a hectare of stubble and wild vegetation.
Two officers from the Forestry Department, with one fire engine, and two members of the Fire Service, also with one fire engine, worked to extinguish the blaze.
Investigators say the discovery of three simultaneous points of ignition points to the fire having been started deliberately.
