A 21-year-old Israeli man has been remanded for eight days on suspicion of attempted murder, while his 22-year-old compatriot has also been arrested over the same incident.

A court on Wednesday ordered the eight-day detention of a 21-year-old Israeli national in connection with a violent stabbing outside a nightclub in Ayia Napa, which left four people injured in the early hours of the morning.

Police also arrested a 22-year-old Israeli man, described as a friend of the main suspect, who was injured during the same incident and is believed to have been involved in the altercation.

The violence broke out at around 4.30am outside a nightclub, after the two Israeli men allegedly became involved in a dispute with a young Cypriot man. Two Cypriot security guards intervened in an attempt to stop the fight.

According to the evidence gathered so far, the 21-year-old allegedly pulled out a knife and injured the man with whom he had been arguing, as well as the two security guards. The 22-year-old Israeli was also injured during the clash.

One of the security guards was stabbed in the abdomen and underwent surgery. His condition is not considered life-threatening. The second security guard was injured in the right calf by a sharp object.

The young Cypriot man sustained a laceration, while the 22-year-old Israeli suffered injuries to the head and face. All four were taken to Famagusta General Hospital.

Police said the condition of the 22-year-old, who suffered wounds from a sharp object, is serious. The two security guards, aged 25 and 41, sustained lighter injuries.

When officers arrived at the scene, the 21-year-old allegedly insulted police and was arrested not only in connection with the attempted murder case, but also for public insult, causing alarm and breach of the peace.

A knife was found at the scene and taken as evidence.

Famagusta CID is continuing investigations.
