The government is examining the possibility of operating the old terrestrial digital television platform in parallel with the new DVB-T2 system for approximately two months in an effort to facilitate the transition to the new technology.
Speaking on state radio, Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodemos Damianou said technical confirmation is still needed on whether parallel operation is feasible, although indications so far are positive.
Damianou acknowledged that the scale of the problems arising from the switchover had not been fully anticipated, particularly in homes with older or faulty television reception installations.
He also assured the public that information and support measures would continue throughout the transition period.
At the same time, he urged consumers who encounter cases of alleged overcharging or profiteering linked to the switchover to report them to the relevant authorities.
