A serious disruption to Cyprus’s electricity system on Friday morning left several areas without power for around an hour, according to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The incident was recorded at 10:40 am after telecommunications links were temporarily lost between major solar parks and the Electricity Distribution Control Centre.
Loss of control over solar parks
The communication failure made it impossible to control the solar parks, causing a disruption to the electricity system and temporarily interrupting supplies in several areas.
Backup connections to be installed
The EAC apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked consumers for their understanding and cooperation.
The authority’s relevant departments are taking steps to install backup telecommunications links to prevent similar incidents in the future.
