Famagusta CID is investigating an attempted murder following an attack on a motorist in the Kokkinies area in the early hours of the morning.
The 33-year-old escaped unharmed, while officers are examining two scenes as part of the investigation.
Driver came under fire
Andreas Constantinou, head of Famagusta CID and spokesman for the Famagusta Police Division, said the man was driving at around 5.40am when several shots were fired at him.
“No one was injured as a result of the shooting,” he told reporters at the scene.
Burnt vehicle found in Avgorou
Police later received a report of a vehicle on fire in the Avgorou area.
“Based on the examinations carried out so far, the vehicle appears to be connected to the attempted murder,” Constantinou said.
Evidence collected from both scenes
The investigation remains at an early stage, with officers examining both the scene of the attack and the location where the vehicle was set alight.
“Evidence is being collected and all necessary examinations will be carried out,” Constantinou said.
He added that the victim is not known to police.
