A 28-year-old has been remanded in custody for five days after being arrested at Larnaca airport in connection with an investigation into an online fraud case reported in Paphos.
According to police, the case was reported last February by a 49-year-old man, who said he had received a phone call from an unknown person. During the call, the name of the online bank where he held an account appeared on his phone screen.
According to the complaint, the unknown caller told him that attempts were being made to breach his bank account and asked him to hand over his personal banking codes. After disclosing his details, the 49-year-old later discovered that more than €6,800 had been withdrawn from two of his bank accounts.
As part of the investigation, the Paphos CID's Office for Combating Economic Crime secured a court arrest warrant against a 28-year-old man.
The suspect was arrested yesterday at Larnaca airport as he was attempting to leave the Republic.
He appeared today before Paphos District Court, which issued an order remanding him in custody for five days.
The investigation continues under the Paphos CID's Office for Combating Economic Crime.
