The Avakas Gorge trail in Paphos remains closed to visitors and will stay shut until further notice, the Forestry Department has said, warning that some visitors are continuing to ignore the restrictions and enter the gorge despite clear signage and physical barriers at the entrance.
The trail has been closed since 6 December 2025 due to dangerous conditions. The Forestry Department said serious hazards persist, including increased water flow, slippery terrain, and the risk of falling rocks and soil. Chains and warning signs have been placed at the entrance to block access.
The department said that those who bypass the signage and enter the trail "do so at their own risk" and that the Forestry Department "bears no responsibility for any untoward incident that may occur." It added that the closure remains necessary on safety grounds and that a further update will be issued when the gorge is deemed fully safe for visitors.
