Cyprus welcomed the announcement of the agreement between the United States and Iran, saying it “represents a critical step for sustained de-escalation across the region, including Lebanon and for the restoration of freedom of navigation”.
In a post on social media, the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) added that the US-Iran agreement “provides a renewed momentum towards a comprehensive negotiating framework for a lasting settlement of the nuclear issue and all other critical issues”
The Cypriot MFA encouraged all parties “to seize this opportunity and remain committed to dialogue, restraint and diplomatic engagement”.
The US and Iran announced they have reached an agreement that will take effect on Friday. US President Donald Trump said the US will lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports, while the Strait of Hormuz will reopen after the agreement is signed.
