The Israeli prime minister linked Britain to a future nuclear Islamic republic, prompting a fierce online dispute.

 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has drawn criticism after referring to an “Islamic Republic of Britain” during an interview. British broadcaster Piers Morgan responded by sharing the clip on X and calling him an “idiot”.

Netanyahu’s remarks on Britain

According to Israeli broadcaster Channel 14, Netanyahu commented on Britain’s political and demographic situation, suggesting sarcastically that the country could be called the “Islamic Republic of Britain”.

He added that “someone said the first Islamic republic with nuclear weapons would be Britain”, before saying that Israel was working “to prevent another nuclear Islamic republic in Tehran”.

Morgan responds on X

Morgan, who has around nine million followers on X, shared the relevant excerpt and responded with a single word: “Idiot.”

His post attracted hundreds of thousands of views and thousands of comments, triggering a wider online dispute.

Israeli correspondent joins exchange

Channel 14 correspondent Omri Haim also joined the discussion, responding sharply to Morgan.

“Yes, he is the idiot. How is Birmingham doing? Don’t come crying when you feel the water boiling, frog,” he wrote.
