Phaedon Phaedonos, the suspended mayor of Paphos, has issued a public statement in response to the legal proceedings pending against him, describing a "coordinated and relentless war" waged against him since 21 January 2026, with the stated aim of his "political and moral destruction." He alleged that unscrupulous individuals exploited the situation to target him with what he characterised as slander, and that those behind the campaign are people who, in his words, had been exposed through his political work and public accusations of scandals, money laundering and mismanagement over the years.
Phaedonos said he would respond to every allegation and every published claim, but that his immediate priority is the criminal case. He said he learned of many developments in the case through specific media outlets before receiving official notification, including the initial filing of the case at Limassol District Court for 2 April, its subsequent withdrawal, and its re-filing at Paphos District Court for 21 April, where he said he appeared in person.
The statement included thanks to his family for what he described as the disproportionate burden they are carrying, and to those offering him support. He called on the public to follow the trial proceedings closely, expressing hope that all details of the case would be published. "Let us hope that all the details of the trial will be made public. Follow it. I believe it deserves your attention," he said, adding: "Perhaps in the end all of this is happening for the good. Perhaps something will be corrected for our country."
