Operations are targeting drink-driving and speeding, while coastal entertainment venues are also being inspected.

Enhanced police checks will continue throughout the week after around 110 arrests were recorded between August 7 and 16, Police Spokesperson Vyron Vyronos told CNA.

The operations are aimed at improving road safety, preventing and combating crime, strengthening the public’s sense of security and protecting citizens.

Checks across holiday areas

Vyronos said the intensified operations would continue daily over the coming period, covering both mountain and coastal areas as holidaymakers head to these destinations.

He also noted an increase in drivers being booked for driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.

Coastal venues also inspected

In coastal areas, officers are also checking entertainment venues for operating licences, alcohol consumption by minors and other compliance matters, Vyronos said.
