The investigation into the ‘Sandy’ case is progressing at multiple levels, with Cyprus Police maintaining daily communication with the FBI team assisting in the probe.

Police spokesperson Vyron Vyronos told CNA that investigators continue to take statements, focusing on the substance and content of the messages under examination. At the same time, results are still pending from Europol regarding the authenticity of those messages.

Asked about Europol’s findings, Vyronos said there is no update yet on when the agency will submit its report to the Republic of Cyprus.

Regarding the FBI’s role, he confirmed that US investigators are in constant contact with the local investigative team. They are assessing witness statements and data provided by police and are expected to produce a report with recommendations, along with the results of their own evaluation of the evidence.

Vyronos added that a significant number of statements have already been collected, while the investigation remains ongoing. He noted that additional testimonies may be required as new leads emerge, making it premature to determine whether the inquiry is nearing completion.

“The key point is that the investigative team is working intensively to deliver results as soon as possible,” he said, adding that Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis is being regularly briefed on developments.
