Applications are now open for BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) Cyprus 2026, a non-commercial, one-day exhibition of projection-based art taking place on 29 September at Hangar Culture Space. Creators from Cyprus and abroad are invited to submit video works, screenings and audiovisual installations, with applications closing on 8 August.
BYOB is an international initiative launched in Berlin in 2010 by artist Rafaël Rozendaal. The concept has since grown into a global movement seeking to democratise exhibition spaces and encourage experimental approaches to media art. The Cyprus edition follows the same philosophy, offering creators a space and a community to present their work without commercial constraints.
How to take part
Organisers say participation is open to everyone, regardless of country of residence or origin. Applicants based outside Cyprus are asked, where possible, to arrange their own projector on the island and someone to handle its installation, since available equipment is limited. Works from the visual arts may also be submitted, provided they fit the event's framework and philosophy.
BYOB Cyprus can also accommodate installations involving sound or particular spatial requirements. For works that include sound, organisers recommend the use of headphones so as not to affect other presentations. Details for works with special technical or spatial needs will be discussed directly with selected creators in September.
Alongside the exhibition, a music programme will run in partnership with Lefcosia Modular Sessions. A modular live jam will take place from 7pm to 10pm, followed from 8pm by live performances from Feliks Mirenskiy, Hadj, Anya Maryina and LVSTDRP, with organisers saying further names will be announced.
