Unsettled Weather: Rain, Storms and Possible Hail Forecast as Temperatures Drop

A seasonal low-pressure system will bring localised rain, storms and possible hail to Cyprus over the coming days.

Today's forecast

Increased local cloud cover is expected at intervals throughout the day. From around midday onwards, developing clouds are forecast to bring localised rain and isolated storms, mainly over the mountains and inland areas, but also in parts of the southeastHail cannot be ruled out during storms.

Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, initially light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming moderate, 4 Beaufort, by the afternoon, and reaching strong to locally strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, along the coast.

The sea will initially be slight in the west and north, and calm to slight in the south and east, becoming generally slight everywhere by the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 34°C inland, around 30°C on the western and south-western coasts, around 32°C on the remaining coastal areas, and around 26°C over the higher mountains.

Tonight's outlook

Conditions will turn mostly clear across most areas this evening, though increased low cloud is expected locally, particularly along the coast. Later, during the early morning hours, patchy fog cannot be ruled out in some areas. Winds will weaken and become gradually downslope, light, at 3 Beaufort. The sea will remain slight in the west and north, becoming calm to slight in the south and east. Temperatures will drop to around 22°C inland, around 24°C along the coast, and around 18°C over the higher mountains.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday

On Tuesday and Wednesday, increased local cloud is again expected at intervals, with clouds developing after midday likely to bring localised rain and isolated storms, mainly over the mountains and inland areas. Hail is expected during storms.

On Thursday, the weather is expected to be generally mostly clear, with temporary increased local cloud.

Temperatures will rise gradually until Thursday, returning to levels close to the seasonal norm.
