A forest fire that broke out at 7:00am on Monday within the community of Oikos Marathasas has been brought under full control, after burning a small area of low wild vegetation, according to the Department of Forests.

How the fire was contained

According to a statement from the Department of Forests, the fire was brought under control quickly thanks to the timely intervention of a local resident, who used the community's fire safety system, together with Department personnel.

One vehicle deployed

A single fire engine from the Department of Forests responded to extinguish the blaze.

Cause of the fire

The Department of Forests said the fire was caused by birds coming into contact with bare cables on the electricity distribution network.
