The Health Ministry has assured the public that adequate checks are in place to identify medical centres that fail to follow established protocols and appropriate medical practices.
Senior Health Ministry official Karolina Stylianou said the authorities intervene immediately when complaints are received about centres suspected of breaching protocols or legislation.
Ministry responds to complaints
Speaking on RIK's Proino Dromologio programme, Stylianou said people should not fear that medical centres operating outside established medical practices are going unchecked.
“When the Ministry receives complaints concerning medical centres that do not comply with protocols or violate the legislation, it intervenes immediately,” she said.
She cited the case of a centre in Larnaca which had carried out plasmapheresis on a female patient several years ago. The woman was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital.
Stylianou said the centre later ceased operating under the name it used at the time, although she did not know whether it currently operates under a different name.
Centres under investigation will not be named
The Health Ministry will not disclose the names of medical centres that may be under investigation, Stylianou said, explaining that this was necessary to protect ongoing investigations.
She called on members of the public to contact the Health Ministry and provide information about centres using their equipment to offer treatments that are not medically indicated.
