Disy Leader Urges Responsible, Unified Stance Ahead of Guterres Talks

The Speaker of the House and Disy leader said the coming days present a critical juncture for the Cyprus problem, calling for unity and a responsible approach ahead of Guterres' meetings with the two leaders.

Speaker of the House and Disy leader Annita Demetriou welcomed the arrival in Cyprus of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, describing his visit as a significant opportunity for the Cyprus problem.

In a post on X, Demetriou said the Secretary-General's presence on the island "represents a significant opportunity that we must seize with seriousness, responsibility and national unity."

The Disy leader stressed that the coming contacts are taking place at a critical juncture for the Cyprus problem, reiterating the need for unity and a responsible stance ahead of Guterres' meetings with the president and the Turkish Cypriot leader.

"We welcome the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, to Cyprus this evening," she wrote. "His presence represents a significant opportunity that we must seize with seriousness, responsibility and national unity."
