Around 750 candidates from 18 party lists are competing for 56 seats in the 6 May nomination process.

Cyprus has formally entered election mode as the nomination submission process for the 24 May 2026 parliamentary elections got under way this morning. The procedure, which marks the first official step toward polling day, opened at 9am and is expected to conclude at 12.30pm.

According to official figures, around 750 candidates are competing for the 56 seats in the new House of Representatives, the majority running under one of 18 party lists, reflecting an unusually fragmented electoral landscape ahead of what is shaping up to be the most competitive parliamentary vote in recent memory.

Nominations are being submitted at separate locations across the island's six constituencies. In Nicosia, the process is taking place at the Archangelos Cultural Foundation of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos. In Limassol, Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos, submissions are being received at the respective District Administration offices. In Kyrenia, the designated venue is the conference hall at the Ministry of Finance.

Separately, nominations for the representatives of the Maronite, Armenian and Latin communities, are being submitted at the Ministry of Interior. Where only one candidate comes forward for any given group, the Elections Officer will proceed directly to declaring that candidate selected without a contest.
