The Attorney General, George Savvides, reacted strongly to reports claiming that a member of the Anti-Corruption Authority, Makis Konstantinidis, told the House Institutions Committee on Wednesday morning that “the Authority referred three corruption cases to the Legal Service involving a police officer (reportedly Deputy Chief of Police Michalis Katsounotos), but none moved forward.”

According to Savvides, these reports are unfounded. He stressed that no such cases were ever submitted to the Legal Service. In a post on social media, the Attorney General called on the Anti-Corruption Authority to clarify whether Konstantinidis actually made such a statement in Parliament.

“I call on the Anti-Corruption Authority to state which are the three corruption cases it claims were completed and sent to the Legal Service but did not progress. If such statements were not made, the Authority has an obligation to clarify,” Savvides wrote.
