The EDEK president did not object to the Legal Service’s request to lift his parliamentary immunity and rejects the offences under investigation.

Marinos Sizopoulos did not raise any objection before the Supreme Court to the Legal Service’s request for the lifting of his parliamentary immunity. Through his lawyer, he stated that he categorically denies and rejects the offences under investigation, stressing that his stance aims to facilitate the proper administration of justice.

Proceedings before the Supreme Court

During today’s procedure, defence lawyer Chris Triantafyllides informed the court that there would be no objection to the request submitted by the Legal Service. He underlined that his client denies the allegations being examined.

Triantafyllides added that Sizopoulos’ position before the court is intended to support the correct and unhindered administration of justice.

Position of the Legal Service

The Legal Service was represented by Assistant Attorney General Savvas Angelides and Republic Prosecutor Polina Efthivoulou.

Angelides stated that “the procedure is such that we fully respect the presumption of innocence” and requested a few days in order to submit a written memorandum outlining their positions.

Next procedural steps

The Court set 9 March as the deadline for the Legal Service to submit its written position, 13 March for the defence to file its response, and 16 March for the hearing of the case.
