Significant quantities of cables used exclusively by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) were discovered at two metal trading and recycling premises in Paphos during a police operation.
According to police, a total of 150kg of cables were seized.
The two premises are owned by Syrian nationals living in Paphos, who were arrested, charged in writing and later released pending a future court appearance.
Police said 50kg of cut cables were found at the first premises, while a further 100kg of the same type of cable was seized at the second location.
Authorities noted that similar thefts of EAC cables have been recorded in Paphos in the past.
The searches were carried out as part of a coordinated police operation targeting the illegal trafficking and trade of metals.
The seized cables have been taken as evidence, while investigations continue to determine their origin and whether the suspects are linked to cable theft cases.
